Parent Challenge: get involved!
Okay parents, here is a challenge to help you get involved in your child's learning and help them earn a Bear Buck! Just talk to your child about our banana experiment (look at yesterday's entry), decide which bag you think will keep the banana the freshest and vote by sending me an email at brenda31516@gmail.com or bpolvadore@pierce.k12.ga.us and include your student's name, your name and your vote! Happy science voting!

Question: Which bag will keep the banana the freshest?
Today we started our first science experiment. We are studying the scientific process in science and are going step by step through the process. Here are our pictures from the first day.....what is your hypothesis? Be thinking about what kind of experiment your child can do at home for a science project!
Will the banana in the ziploc bag keep the best?
Or the one in a brown paper bag?
Or maybe the one in a Walmart bag....
Stay tuned for more pictures!!!

And on Day 2....
On day 2 we worked on order of operations in math. Can you find your student? They had a great time using tiles to show various problems using order of operations. Do you remember PEMDAS?

First Day of School
WOW! What an awesome day! Lots of good supplies and many students ready and eager to earn Bear Bucks! If you do not know about Bear Bucks, ask your child...they were really stoked about this one!
We did a really neat lesson today about bullying....
1. Take a piece of paper and wad it up and stomp on it LOTS of times....
We did a really neat lesson today about bullying....
1. Take a piece of paper and wad it up and stomp on it LOTS of times....
Then take a look at what you have......
A really small piece of paper....doesn't look like what you started with! Then smooth it out and tell the paper you are really sorry.
Smooth it out as much as possible. Do everything you can do to make it look right. No matter what you do and no matter how sorry you are, the scars are still there. You can't take them away....this is what it is like to be bullied by someone else!!!!!! No matter what you say, even "I am sorry," does not take the scars away. We are a NO BULLYING class!
Everyone got it! You should have heard the sounds and seen the faces. We are going to treat our friends with kindness!

Open House
The day finally came that Mrs. Overstreet and I were ready to welcome everyone with open arms! I am so excited to have a new team mate! Just to let you know, she is pretty awesome!
I was so thrilled to see everyone. Some were ready and eager for a new year...lots of eager parents ( lol ) and some of you were just a tad bit anxious to start a new year.

Here are Joshua, Jessica and their mom....they are going to be so much fun to have in class...and I know where to find their momma!
You are all so awesome! Can't wait to see you all Monday...but while we wait for Monday, here are a few more pictures from Open House. It will be fun to check back and see how much everyone has changed at the end of the year!
Looks like everyone here is ready! I am loving it! See you all Monday morning!

Getting there...
I've been working more and more as the time closes in on the first week of school. Getting things done although the work seems very slow at times! Bulletin boards are about finished, wall decorations up, and new carpet in place! Just look at the progress.....
Made my own scrunchy boarder for bulletin boards this year. It was kind of time consuming, but I love the results!
Can't wait for us to all be up front on this great carpet compliments of a dear friend. I really like having all my students on the floor up front with me, but sorry guys, I will be in a chair or it would take many of you to get me up....about the time Dr. Theo walked in!!! :)
Ready for small groups with our new math voacabulary up and ready!
We are going to have LOTS of great times this year so for now, it is time to close this post and get to school! More to do....

Getting ready.....Will you be one of my students?
It is about two weeks before school starts and if you are going to be one of my new students I want you to know I am thinking about you already! I am planning for you and getting things ready and figuring out how we can all have a great fifth grade year! I worked in our room the other day and while I made some progress, I think I also made a bigger mess than when I started!
I am excited about the new year! Many changes and lots to look forward too. Here is a picture of the project I finished the other day.
I am counting the days till I meet you and your parents! It is going to be an AWESOME year!

This is where we are going to hang all the great work you will be doing this year! Won't your paper look awesome in one of those frames? I am also working on a project for hanging papers in the hall but it is not finished yet. You will have to stay in touch for that picture....but then you don't even know I am here yet! You will soon! I love you all already. Hope you keep enjoying your last few weeks of summer and are excited about the new year!
This is what the rest of our room looks like now....some progress!
